eBay in trouble over counterfeits: "Jeweller Tiffany & Co is suing eBay for allowing individuals to auction counterfeit items on its site, the New York Times has reported.
The company secretly purchased 200 pieces of jewellery which claimed to be from Tiffany on the auction site in 2004. Three quarters of the pieces received by the jeweller turned out to be fakes.

First of all, its no shock that 3/4 of the merchandise Tiffany purchased was fake. I'm actually surprised that any of it was real. I would assume that any designer goods sold on EBay are fake. That's why I buy from reputable dealers and get the real McCoy.
Second, I think that Tiffany should be suing individual sellers of counterfit merchandise, as they are the actual sellers, not EBay. EBay is merely a listing service that charges a percentage of the sale as its listing fee. I guess Tiffany can't get any $$$ out of individual buyers though, so it's going after the big boys at EBay.
And might I add as a side note that Tiffany & Company jewelry isn't all that. I've visited their website and store and was sorely disappointed.
